Biography
Brian Mattes retired in 2015 from his position as a senior officer responsible for federal government relations for Vanguard. He joined Vanguard in 1984 as its first Director of Public Relations and created Vanguard’s U.S. and international public relations functions before starting Vanguard’s government relations function in 2004. He has nearly 40 years of public affairs experience, including more than 31 years with Vanguard.
He holds a B.A. degree in communications and an M.B.A. from Temple University, where he has been a frequent guest lecturer on public affairs, is serving as a member of the Board of Visitors of the School of Communications, and had been an Advisory Councilor to the Department of Strategic Communications, which he helped to create and launch. He is a member of the School’s Alumni Hall of Fame.

He has provided narrations for local television programs, a Temple University production, and a radio station on Temple's campus. He is currently taking acting lessons and recently completed a character actor workshop with LA actor Gary Martinez.
